Zero Waste

THE PROJECTS

MINI PROJECT \ FEBRUARY 2024

---------------------------------------------------------

What?

Zero Waste is one of sustainable fashion’s practices. It refers to the design & production of clothing where all materials to produce the garment are utilized and no fabric waste is generated. This technique can be done through several ways;

  • Methods that require minimal fabric cutting; Pattern Tessellation, Strategic Cutting

  • Incorporate recycled / sustainable materials

  • Upcycling / Repurposing garments

Why?

15%

textile waste ends up on the room floor when producing a garment.

Textiles wasted = Resources wasted

Advantages

  • Promotes sustainable practices (ethical & responsible approach to production)

  • Encourage innovation in design & production

  • Eliminate textile waste -> ↓carbon footprint ✅ conserves resources

  • Fewer landfills

  • Saves cost in using fabric

  • Efficient production

Traditionally zero waste techniques is hard to do as it requires a lot of experimentations and test as we go along. But now, with the help of digital prototyping softwares; CLO 3D / Browswear, it is possible to test around digitally and really get the 0 waste design, efficiently and responsibly, with having more room to play with.

It's important to know the fabric you're using to be able to maximize and use up the entire width and length of it

Here I input 100x160cm and create the shape out of the full fabric width
