CREATIVE PATTERN CUTTING: TR

THE PROJECTS

MINI PROJECT \ FEBRUARY 2024

---------------------------------------------------------

Transformational Reconstruction

Is a technique developed by Japanese designer, Shingo Sato to create shape/construction  as part of the garment. It is a creative pattern making technique, to create 3 dimensional shapes from 2 dimensional surfaces

Different types of TR Cutting Techniques:

  1. 3D Dart Manipulation

  2. TR Vortex

  3. Box integration

  4. Balloon Technique

  5. Origami Technique

do opt for more abstract curvey line that is easier to do during freehand so it makes the technique worthwhile compared to traditional 2D pattern cutting!

cut out the pattern with the new pattern piece & give seam allowances to sew

here I'm using leftover fabric from previous project just to experiment. Using printed/ 2 contrast color fabric will make the pattern pop-up more!

mark the APEX POINTS of all darts & freehand draw the pattern desired on the bodice directly. Lines MUST pass through all the APEX POINTS.

cut through the line, don't forget to give notches as guide to sew on actual piece later on.

sew notch to notch and this is the final result I made.
